B&Q Coming To Aberystwyth?

B Q AberystwythThere are rumours afoot the B&Q is to open a DIY store in Aberystwyth.

Job adverts have appeared on the Job centre website for positions including a sotre manager based in the town.

It is hoped that the company will replace FOCUS DIY, whose store at Parc-Y-Llyn has been an empty shell for several months after the company went into administration.

The good news on the job front for Aberystwyth was however somewhat soured as Cardiff retail giant Peacocks, who also own the Bon Marche brand announced that they were going into administration providing staff with a rather uncertain future.

Both brands occupy space within the town, both on the main shopping street and a local retail park. Although it may still not be known exactly what will happen to the company there is a real prospect that both stores may close, leaving further empty retail buildings in and around the town centre.

With regard to your poll to close Aber Day Centre. It is NOT being closed, just relocated (for the better)

Thanks for your comments. Perhaps I should have reworded, as its intended meaning is the building itself, which is also known as the day centre.

I think B&Q is a great idea, & just what Aberystwyth needs. I’m moving into a New house in 3 weeks… and it’s ideal. I didn’t really think Focus had quality stuff, but I definitely know B&Q will, I’ve been to many before. I’m so glad ones coming to Aberystwyth, I’m heading down today as it’s the opening day, I can’t wait to have a mooch around.

I also think B&Q is a much better store than Focus which unfortunately may explain why Focus went the way it did.

Certainly there are a lot of products that aren’t always easy to find in the smaller town centre stores but it’s good to remember the local businesses too like Clements, Charlies, Ellis’s & Country Stores.

However for the bigger things you just can’t get easily in Aber town centre B&Q is going to be ideal!
