Did you know……
The building which stands to the right of the Conservative Club on Eastgate Street was the site of the first hospital in Aberystwyth.
Bonsall Town House, which is situated behind the railings near the top of Eastgate Street became the towns first ever hospital, and even at the time of this photo it was still only a house.
For many years people would have travelled for miles and miles to the next large town such as Carmarthern in order to receive treatment for injuries and medical problems too severe for the normal doctor to deal with.
Although not pictured, the Conservative club which was once run by the parents of Charles Bronson, now stands on the site of the white stone cottage you see in the shot.
Puts peoples complaints about Bronglais into perspective doesn’t it?
