Market Hall Could Be Turned Into Food Hall
Plans have recently been placed in front of the council which could see the Market Hall opposite The Angel turned into a food hall occupied by local producers like those who attend the regular farmers market.
If approved the market hall would see £270,000 of refurbishment cash and 13 food stalls controlled by Food Centre Wales and occupied by Welsh producers.
Some of the money would come from the Regeneration Area funding provided by the Welsh Government with further funds coming from various sources including the county council.
The market currently houses 16 stalls, 14 of which are occupied by traders who now fear for the future of their businesses believing that they could be forced out of the hall in order to make way for food stalls.
The council has however stated that no businesses will be displaced by the refurbishment although looking at the number of stalls that will be available post refurbishment if plans go ahead this doesn’t really seem to stack up! It has also been stated that plans will not proceed without the full support of current traders who understandly are not against refurbishment but want reassurances about their future in the building.
