Mawddach Cycle Trail

Barmouth BridgeStart: Dolgellau

Finish: Dolgellau

Distance: 16 Miles

Time: 2.5 Hours

Rating: Easy

This wonderful flat cycle trail follows the River Mawddach from Dolgellau to Barmouth taking in brilliant views across the estuary. The trail itself sits on top of the old railway line which ran down the side of the estuary and is open to both cyclists and walkers but most importantly for some does not take in any roads.

The trail is clearly signposted from start to finish with a number of ‘You Are Here’ style maps along the way should you need them. Barmouth makes and excellent half way stopping point as your cross the famous bridge from Fairbourne across the estuary. Please be aware that their is a toll to pay when crossing the bridge, although you can also find plenty of nice beach and places to stop in Fairbourne itself.

An excellent stopping place on your return is the George III hotel in Penmaenpool which is very popular with cyclists and here you can relax at the side of the meandering Mawddach enjoying a cool drink in the sunshine.

More information on the Mawddach trail can also be found online.
